Coaching & Therapy
The primary difference between a therapist and a coach is that therapists tend to focus more on the past or present while coaches tend to focus more on the present and the future. Therapists are often more focused on cognitions while coaches are often more focused on behaviours. Life coaches identify and describe current problematic behaviours so the client can work to modify them. Therapists analyse their client's past as a tool for understanding present behaviours. In other words, therapists focus on “why” certain behavioural patterns occur, and coaches work on “how” to work toward a goal.
